Our learning will be hands-on, exciting, and memorable. My goal is to encourage students to be life long learners and inspire students to LOVE to read. We will be using the Daily 5 model for reading and writing. Students select from five authentic reading and writing choices, working independently toward personalized goals, while the teacher meets individual needs through whole-group and small-group instruction, as well as one-on-one conferring. These choices include
- Read to Self,
- Work on Writing,
- Read to Someone,
- Listen to Reading, and
- Word Work.

Character Education Parkside has a strong character education program. Every month we focus on a different character word. Students will meet monthly with our Buddy Class for a lesson on the word of the month. This will be different this year because now our class will be the "big buddies" helping younger students. They will get to be the role-models and teachers. It's an exciting change for the students. We conduct a monthly meeting with third grade to learn about the word of the month.
